Giants DT Lawrence requests trade over stalled extension talks
New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade and informed the team he will skip offseason workouts. The move stems from stalled contract negotiations over the past two years. Lawrence seeks a deal that matches his value to the franchise.
A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Lawrence entered the NFL as the Giants' first-round pick out of Clemson in 2019. The 28-year-old, listed at 340 pounds, has anchored the Giants' defensive line through several losing seasons. He signed a four-year, $87.5 million extension in 2023, with two years remaining.
In 109 career games, Lawrence has recorded 30.5 sacks, 15 pass breakups and 341 tackles. Last season marked his first with all 17 games played, yielding 31 tackles, a half-sack and his first career interception.
The Giants hold two years of guaranteed money on Lawrence's deal, paying him $18.5 million in 2026 absent a new agreement. With the NFL draft approaching, any trade partner would likely need to offer multiple draft picks in return.
